Five home styling tips with Currans
We recently welcomed local estate agent Currans to our garden centre, to share some of our favourite home and garden ideas. In our first video, Martin from our plant team shared his knowledge and expertise when it comes to planning a garden (you can watch the full video here).
This time, Lindsey, our Visual Merchandiser at Okells, showed Currans some standout pieces from our homeware and gift shop, while talking through different ways to create a home that feels warm and inviting.
Whether you're preparing your property for sale, putting the finishing touches to a new home, or simply looking for inspiration, a thoughtfully styled space can transform how your home feels and create a welcoming place for everyday living.
Why styling matters
If you’ve just moved in to somewhere new, or are looking to update your existing interior, a well styled space can help to make a house feel like a true home. Likewise if you’re selling a property, a few simple edits can help buyers imagine themselves living there - be it clever storage baskets to hide the clutter, or a cosy throw across a comfy armchair.
At Okells our aim is to curate a range of home and interior pieces that stand the test of time while offering good value and something different. We hand pick every product, sourced from suppliers we know and trust, and there is always something new to discover with new stock arriving all the time. So, if you need a hand, our team are always happy to help you find the right pieces for your property. Head to our Instagram to watch Lindsey share her favourites with Matt from Currans, or read on for more home styling ideas...

1. Statement pieces
While our lifestyle shop is filled with plenty of gifts and home accessories, did you know we sell quality furniture too? Including upholstered armchairs, extendable solid wood dining tables (perfect for any size of room) and pocket-friendly options to suit first-time homes.
Plus, the pieces that really elevate a space, like a statement mirror, large art canvas or table lamp, as well as a range of outdoor furniture – from compact bistro sets to our all-weather rattan dining and lounge sets.
2. Comfort is key
Soft furnishings like cushions, throws and bedding can give existing rooms a fresh look without any major renovations. Plus, they add texture, warmth, and can be easily swapped out depending on the season. We recently introduced a new range of towels and 100% tumbled cotton bedding to our collection, in addition to our wide range of cushions, rugs and throws.

3. The power of fragrance
Home fragrance is a simple yet incredibly effective way to enhance how a space feels. As one of the most evocative of the senses, a scented candle or diffuser creates a welcoming first impression during a property viewing (a simple trick that Matt from Currans always recommends to clients) and adds a sense of comfort to everyday surroundings.
4. Added personality
Vases, prints, picture frames and home accessories are the finishing touches that help to tell the story of a home. Whatever your style, it’s these finishing touches that help to bring personality and life to a space – whether it's a few faux flowers in a vase or your favourite photos in a frame. These are the little things that make a big difference.

5. Practical and beautiful
Of course, the best interiors aren't just about how a space looks, they're about how it works for everyday life. Whether you're decluttering before putting your home on the market or looking to elevate the spaces you use most, practical pieces can have just as much impact as decorative ones.
From beautifully designed kitchenware and natural cleaning brushes, to sustainably made storage baskets and versatile utility pieces, choosing well-made, timeless homeware not only helps keep your home looking its best but also creates a sense of calm that makes every room feel more considered.
Our thanks to the team at Currans for taking the time to visit us, to chat about our shared love of homes and interiors. If you’re considering a move, their experienced team can help you buy or sell your property. Plus you can shop our full range of homewares at our garden centre, or head to Hoole for an edited selection (including many exclusive pieces).
